In a trice. In an instant; in a twickling. Trice is
probably the same word as trice, to haul, to tie up; the idea being “at a single
tug”; but other suggestions are that ours represents the Spanish phrase es un
tris, tris, meaning the crash of broken glass, or that as second is the sixtieth
part of a minute so trice (third) is the sixtieth part of a second.
