The Root Note Constraint

We want to define under which condition a constituent can be uttered on its own. The definition contains both syntactic and semantic aspects:

A constituent can be uttered on its own if it meets the following conditions:

  1. It is is phrase.
  2. Its HEAD value identifies it as of part of speech v whose VFORM is fin.
  3. Its SUBJ, SPR, and COMPS lists are empty.
  4. Its content is of type proposition.
