Aim

The aim of this e-unit is to introduce you to the orthographic, phonological, morpho-syntactic and semantic characteristics of the adjectival compounds, as well as the criteria that distinguishes adjectival compounds from free combinations by comparing instances from two languages English and Bulgarian, which belong to two different language groups - West Germanic and South-Slavonic, respectively. The analysed instances unarguably come to show that adjectival compounds in English and in Bulgarian tend to demonstrate structural similarities and provide a ground for the belief that both languages move towards analiticity.
