Assif Am-David held a talk at the linguistics department at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem on October 27, 2015. He spoke on “Determined reference as a CI component in the meaning of definites,” presenting joint work with Manfred.
The linguistics department in Jerusalem is the result of a merger of two linguistics departments, one with a philological-typological orientation and the latter with a generative orientation. The talk was designed to address both audiences: The first part addressed the semantics of definiteness whereas the second described the typology of languages with multiple definite articles. The recently initiated fieldwork on Northern Frisian in cooperation with the Ferring Stiftung in Alkersum was also presented for the first time.
